The heart of the town is Viale Ceccarini, the street that leads from the railway station to the sea: fashion boutiques and brand stores display new trends and tendencies alongside a vast array of cafes and restaurants till the pedestrian sea promenade furnished with fountains, flower beds and wooden benches.
Liberty Style villas speak about the history of the town: Villa Mussolini on the seafront, Villa Franceschi, now seat of the Modern Art Gallery, and other beautiful examples of Art Nouveau architecture situated in downtown.
The tourist information centre is located inside Palazzo del Turismo, the building that dates back to 1938 when it opened as the first place on the Adriatic coast dedicated to tourism advertising.
The harbour is a special place for enjoying the sea to the utmost at sunset or at dawn, seated in a cafe or in a fish restaurant, or simply on a solitary bench.
Going upward from the seafront along viale Ceccarini you'll find other places of interest: the theatre Spazio Tondelli, the green oasis of the Cicchetti Arboretum, the old borough of Riccione Paese with small and unique shops, the public library and the museum both located inside the Centro culturale della Pesa.
Up on the hill the Agolanti Castle built between 1324 and 1343 by the Agolanti Family.

History...
The name (in local pronunciation Arcaton) comes from the Greek and Byzantine occupation dated back to the sixth century AD: "Archeion" is the name of a plant, the burr, which still grows spontaneously in some areas of the beach now occupied by the bathing establishments but which was once abundant on the desert shore of Riccione.
