The Palace of Tourism (Palazzo del Turismo)

Built according to the project of Professor Gogliardo Ossani from Rimini, it’s the first facility on the Adriatic coast designed for tourism promotion and entertainment.

The exterior of the building is covered in white travertine tiles and was restored and enlarged in the 80’s. Today it is the seat of the Municipality offices and tourist services, and it occasionally hosts events, conferences and exhibitions inside its large halls. The square opposite the palace boasts the fountain Fontana del Nuotatore, given in 1958 by the Malicone family from Milan, in memory of their beloved son, who died prematurely. In honor of the young boy the prestigious marathon competition Maratona Adriatica di Nuoto was organized and took place every year from 1954 to 1974. The fountain reproduces the famous trophy and was designed by the architect Elio Monesi and realized by the sculptor Remo Braschi.

History...

The name (in local pronunciation Arcaton) comes from the Greek and Byzantine occupation dated back to the sixth century AD: "Archeion" is the name of a plant, the burr, which still grows spontaneously in some areas of the beach now occupied by the bathing establishments but which was once abundant on the desert shore of Riccione.
